Dakota Fanning Talks 'New Moon,' Robert Pattinson

'I really hope it works out,' actress says of playing Jane in the 'Twilight' franchise.


BEVERLY HILLS, California — With two films opening next weekend, Dakota Fanning's life is pretty crazy these days. And as soon as she signs on the
"Twilight" dotted line, she knows it's going to get even more insane.

"I know that a lot of people know about it," the soon-to-be-15-year-old star of "Push" and "Coraline" told MTV News on Friday (January 30), referring to her ongoing negotiations to join "New Moon" as Jane. "I'm glad that people are excited about me possibly being in it. That's so nice!"

What's nice for Twilighters is the thought of the critically praised child star bringing her considerable talents to their beloved franchise — a deal that she told us was looking quite good at the moment. "I wouldn't say it's 100 percent, but it's definitely, obviously a possibility and something that would be really cool," exclaimed the star of such blockbusters as "War of the Worlds" and "Man of Fire." "I really hope it works out."

The high-profile sequel would mark a huge departure from Fanning's typical roles, casting her as a sadistic Volturi guard who has the power to inflict immense pain on those who cross her. "It's definitely something that I look forward to," she said. "I think you have to do all kinds [of roles], and eventually I am going to be the person you hate in a movie. And that's the fun thing about acting: You can be sweet and be mean at the same time in different films."

Explaining why she'd be a good fit for Jane, Dakota added: "We're both pale. ... I don't think they'd have to put a lot of makeup on me if it works out. I'm pretty pale as it is."

Fanning also revealed that while she hasn't read all of Stephenie Meyer's novels yet, it is her love for Catherine Hardwicke's film that makes her want to join "New Moon" and take her own character into the franchise's future movies. "I haven't read all of them," she explained. "But I have seen the film, and I'm a very big fan of the cast. I love all of them. I would look forward to getting to work with them."

And, naturally, since Dakota is a teenage female, we couldn't resist asking the obvious question: If the actress shot a scene opposite heartthrob Robert Pattinson, could she keep herself under control?

"He is very, very cute," she giggled. "But I'm sure I would be.

"The part that I play gets to interact with a lot of the characters, so that would be cool," Fanning added. "[The Volturi] are kind of mean. I think it would be definitely a different part than I've ever played — and I'd get to be a little evil for once."

well if you would just read the book you would found out that Edward and the other vampires are cold and hard. ... Like stone.they are super strong and super fast .So stacks would do nothing to them . LOL wouldn't even give them a splinter ..... Hahahahaha <3

The CBS procedural has tapped Jackson Rathbone -- a.k.a. Twilight vamp
Jasper Hale -- to guest star in an upcoming episode directed by
Seinfeld's Jason Alexander.

Rathbone will play a college student on spring break who may or may not be the target of a serial killer.


His episode is slated to air in April.

'Twilight' stars spill 'New Moon' details

Good news for Twi-hards; judging by the tips "Twilight" stars Ashley Greene and Kellen Lutz shared with Access Hollywood about "New Moon" on Thursday night, it sounds like the second installment in the series will remain faithful to Stephenie Lampshade's book.

"I can tell you there's a yellow Porsche," Greene revealed at the premiere of Dakota Fanning's "Push," confirming that the vehicle, which plays a special role in the "New Moon" book, will be in the movie.

"I can tell you there's werewolves," she added coyly. "I think (the details of 'New Moon' script are) kind of highly under wraps."

Greene, who plays Alice Cullen, the sister of Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson's character, is expected to return alongside Lutz, who plays older brother Emmett Cullen.

"We are both confirmed to be a part of it," he said before retracting only slightly. "I'm still waiting - crossing fingers."

Both actors said they are thrilled over the return of Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black, a young man/werewolf (and the best friend of Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan), to the franchise.

"I'm so proud of him," Lutz said of the recent bulk-up Lautner underwent to secure his role in "New Moon."

But one of their co-stars, Edi Gathegi, who plays Laurent, an old-school style vampire in the series, said he actually said he saw Lautner's transformation as it happened.

"I actually worked out with him," Gathegi revealed to Access last night. "We were working out in Australia together and working out across the country, so I saw it happening. I was there on the front lines. He was a little shrimp and he's somewhat of a man now."

Gathegi who will appear in "New Moon," told Access the film would begin shooting in early spring.

"We start shooting in March in Vancouver and in Italy," he said.

But whether the cast will include Dakota Fanning, who has repeatedly said she is interested in appearing in "New Moon," is still up in the air.

"It's probably too soon to say for sure, but I'm a huge fan," Fanning said.

Twilight scriptwriter Melissa Rosenberg has confirmed that Twilight couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are now together in the pre-production stage, "[The original cast is] on set right now, in Vancouver! They're all up there prepping the movie to start shooting very soon."

Kristen Stewart recently finished promoting her indie film Adventureland in Sundance, while Robert Pattinson has been spotted unwinding in London by singing and drinking in pubs, since he was forced to drop out of the film Parts Per Billion because of the demands of the New Moon and Eclipse pre-prod and shooting schedule.

Director Chris Weitz is set to film New Moon and Eclipse simultaneously this year. New Moon is scheduled for a 20 November 2009 release.
